Having started with PVC in 2006, I have steadily climbed the ladder; as Head of Operation’s I manage three teams totaling forty-one people across operations and logistics.
Customer Commitment is at the heart of PVC, it is our USP. We will adapt to suit the customer. This ethos is challenging given 20 vehicles and a daily average of 75 early drop requests. We do it though. PVC hit a 94% average achieved for our early drop requests. This is phenomenal when you consider we have covered 938,611kms so far this year. Our drivers are the face of our company, we are lucky that we are able to recruit such brilliant drivers.
Our night shift make this happen. Dave Bone, the shift manager, and his 13 strong team ensure that all deliveries are picked and each van is weighed and loaded ready for the driver’s early starts.
No goods could be picked, no vans loaded if the goods have not been received in and put away correctly. Mark Spanner heads up goods in. With over 300,000 units coming in every week, Mark runs a strong team keeping errors at a minimum and optimising the night shifts picking time. They do not have to search for goods. The goods are where they should be.
PVC has gained F.O.R.S bronze accreditation, Mark Spanner and Alan Barrett have worked with the drivers to ensure they are trained and properly equipped. PVC is always striving for growth and development. To that end, next year we hope to achieve our silver accreditation.
As you can see being the Head of Operations is a varied role, I am a proud man. My team are superb; they make PVC the success it is. They receive it in, they pick it, they load it, and they deliver it.
